Starbucks Prices Too High for Many Customers
Coffee lovers are turning away from Starbucks, with customers citing the rising costs as a major factor. As Dan Palmer, a 66-year-old Chicago suburbanite, explained, “The prices have gone up — a lot,” with each cup costing upwards of $6. Many consumers view the high prices as no longer worth it, especially as the threat of a recession looms.
Long Wait Times Frustrate Starbucks Patrons
In addition to the high prices, customers have also grown increasingly frustrated with the long wait times at Starbucks, even with the mobile ordering system in place. A survey by Technomic Ignite Consumer shows that more than 30% of customers reported waiting up to 15 minutes for their order, with some even waiting up to 30 minutes. Former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz acknowledged the failure in the mobile ordering system, which handles 30% of the company’s business.
Starbucks Embroiled in Political Controversies
The coffee giant has also found itself at the center of various political controversies, with both the ideological left and right calling for nationwide boycotts.
From the criticism of the company’s holiday cups to allegations of financial support for Israel, Starbucks has struggled to navigate the polarized political landscape.
More recently, the company has drawn criticism for allegedly suppressing attempts by employees to unionize.
These political and cultural tensions have further contributed to the company’s declining customer base.
Despite these challenges, Starbucks remains a top-performing US company and has seen its stock jump nearly 17% since June. However, the company must address these pain points to regain the loyalty of its once-dedicated customer base.
