Actor Julian Sands has been miss­ing for five days after hik­ing Mount Bal­di in South­ern Cal­i­for­nia, offi­cials said Wednesday.

Sands, 65, was report­ed miss­ing in the Bal­di Bowl neigh­bor­hood around 7:30 p.m. Fri­day, said Mara Rodriguez, spokesper­son for the San Bernardi­no Coun­ty Sher­if­f’s Depart­ment. rice field.

Rodriguez launched a search for Sands, known for her “room with a view,” but called it off Sat­ur­day night due to road con­di­tions and the dan­ger of an avalanche, she said.

Accord­ing to Rodriguez, the search and res­cue team will con­tin­ue the search using heli­copters and drones if weath­er per­mits, and plans to search again on the ground when safe­ty is confirmed.

The sher­if­f’s office advis­es heed­ing warn­ings and avoid­ing the area as high winds and ice make the sit­u­a­tion dangerous.

“Recent storms that have brought snow and ice are not favor­able even for hik­ers who con­sid­er them­selves to have a high lev­el of expe­ri­ence,” the agency said in its advisory.

Search and res­cue teams have con­duct­ed 14 res­cue oper­a­tions for lost, strand­ed and injured hik­ers on and around the moun­tain in the past four weeks, and two hik­ers died after falling, the agency said.

Mount Baldy is locat­ed in the San Gabriel Moun­tains north­east of Los Angeles.
