The Hollywood stunt community is in mourning following the death of Tony McFarr, the longtime stunt double for actor Chris Pratt in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” film franchise and beyond. He was 47 years old.
McFarr’s mother, Donna, confirmed to TMZ that her son passed away unexpectedly at his home outside Orlando, Florida on May 13th. She described his death as “shocking” and “unexpected”, noting that he appeared to be “active and healthy” prior to his sudden demise.
The Orange County Medical Examiner is currently conducting toxicology tests to determine the cause of McFarr’s untimely death. He is survived by his parents, sister, and young daughter.
McFarr first teamed up with Pratt as the actor’s stunt double on the 2015 blockbuster “Jurassic World.” He went on to reprise that role in several other high-profile projects starring Pratt, including “Passengers,” “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,” and the “Guardians of the Galaxy” sequels.
In a 2016 Instagram post, Pratt paid tribute to McFarr, calling him his “stunt-man” and expressing his love for his longtime collaborator on the set of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.” The two had developed a close working relationship over the years, with McFarr’s stunt expertise complementing Pratt’s on-screen performances.
