According to his arrest warrant, he was the leader of a cult called The Circle, which had many followers who believed he could communicate with higher powers.
Police say he abused his position to physically and sexually assault indigenous girls and women, marry underage wives, and lead a cult. He was arrested outside his home near Las Vegas where he lives with five wives.
Chasing Horse was born on the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota, home to the Sikung Sioux, one of the seven Lakota tribes.
A 50-page search warrant obtained by the Associated Press on Tuesday said Chasing Horse taught his wives how to use firearms and instructed them to “shoot and kill” police officers who tried to “take the family apart.” When that fails, the wives are forced to take “suicide pills.”
He was arrested after leaving his home in North Las Vegas. In the evening, SWAT personnel appeared outside the two-story house, and detectives were seen raiding the house.
Police found a firearm, 18.5 kilograms (41 pounds) of marijuana and psilocybin mushrooms, and a memory card containing videos of multiple sexual assaults, according to an arrest report released Wednesday.
