Actress Jen­nifer Anis­ton opened up for the first time since costar Matthew Per­ry sud­den­ly passed away in Octo­ber. In an emo­tion­al Insta­gram post, Jen­nifer Anis­ton shared their inti­mate text exchange along­side mem­o­ries of film­ing Friends together.

The post fea­tured a pho­to of the costars on set and a Friends scene express­ing their char­ac­ters’ love. “Hav­ing to say good­bye to our Mat­ty has cut deep,” wrote Anis­ton of los­ing Per­ry, whom she called her “lit­tle brother.”

Review­ing their texts brought both laugh­ter and tears for Anis­ton. She shared one text Per­ry unex­pect­ed­ly sent say­ing it “sums him up.” In their last decade, Per­ry open­ly cred­it­ed Anis­ton with first con­fronting his addic­tion and con­tin­u­al­ly sup­port­ing his recov­ery journey.

Dur­ing his life­time, Per­ry praised Anis­ton as the Friends cast­mate who con­tact­ed him the most after film­ing. In a final inter­view, he eager­ly antic­i­pat­ed reunit­ing with the full cast.

Anis­ton agreed the group would always have each oth­er’s backs as a fam­i­ly for­ev­er changed by the pop­u­lar ‘90s sit­com. Their heart­felt bond exem­pli­fied the endur­ing appeal of Friends for audi­ences world­wide who still feel per­son­al­ly con­nect­ed to the characters.
