Actress Jennifer Aniston opened up for the first time since costar Matthew Perry suddenly passed away in October. In an emotional Instagram post, Jennifer Aniston shared their intimate text exchange alongside memories of filming Friends together.
The post featured a photo of the costars on set and a Friends scene expressing their characters’ love. “Having to say goodbye to our Matty has cut deep,” wrote Aniston of losing Perry, whom she called her “little brother.”
Reviewing their texts brought both laughter and tears for Aniston. She shared one text Perry unexpectedly sent saying it “sums him up.” In their last decade, Perry openly credited Aniston with first confronting his addiction and continually supporting his recovery journey.
During his lifetime, Perry praised Aniston as the Friends castmate who contacted him the most after filming. In a final interview, he eagerly anticipated reuniting with the full cast.
Aniston agreed the group would always have each other’s backs as a family forever changed by the popular ‘90s sitcom. Their heartfelt bond exemplified the enduring appeal of Friends for audiences worldwide who still feel personally connected to the characters.
