Weinstein Hit with Additional Charges Ahead of Upcoming Sex Crimes Trial

Harvey Weinstein Indicted on New Charges

Dis­graced Hol­ly­wood pro­duc­er Har­vey Wein­stein has been indict­ed on new charges by a Man­hat­tan grand jury, just ahead of his high­ly antic­i­pat­ed sec­ond sex crimes tri­al in New York. 

The announce­ment of the new indict­ment was made by Man­hat­tan Assis­tant Dis­trict Attor­ney Nicole Blum­berg dur­ing a morn­ing court hearing.

Weinstein’s Pending Sex Crimes Trial

This lat­est devel­op­ment comes as Wein­stein was already fac­ing a pend­ing sex crimes tri­al fol­low­ing the over­turn­ing of his orig­i­nal con­vic­tion and 23-year sen­tence back in April. 

The new indict­ment will add addi­tion­al charges to the upcom­ing proceedings.

Weinstein’s Recent Health Scare

The news of the new charges also fol­lows Wein­stein’s recent med­ical emer­gency, in which he was rushed to Belle­vue Hospital. 

His attor­ney, Arthur Aidala, revealed that Wein­stein “almost died” and required open-heart surgery.

Weinstein’s Attorney Provides Update

Accord­ing to Aidala, Wein­stein “has sort of a shunt in his chest which is attached to a bag which is drain­ing flu­ids from his body.” 

The next court date is set for Sep­tem­ber 18th, when the judge will receive a med­ical update on Wein­stein’s condition.

The addi­tion of new charges ahead of Wein­stein’s upcom­ing tri­al rep­re­sents a sig­nif­i­cant devel­op­ment in the high-pro­file case. 

Pros­e­cu­tors are clear­ly seek­ing to bol­ster their case against the dis­graced movie mogul, who has already been con­vict­ed of sex crimes in New York and is fac­ing numer­ous oth­er allegations.
