More Spider-Man: No Way Home Trailer Clues Prove Andrew Garfield RightSony
While Spider-Man: No Way Home is one of the most successful films of all time, garnering both universal critical acclaim and immense box office profits, it was not considered a the best film in the eyes of the Academy. On Tuesday, the full list of nominations was revealed for this year’s Oscars. While it’s not unusual for superhero movies to fail in the Best Picture category, many Marvel fans hoped No Way Home would be the exception in light of its accolades.
That didn’t turn out to be the case, although one of its surprise stars still earned an impressive nomination. Andrew Garfield, who reprized his role as Peter Parker from The Amazing Spider-Man in No Way Home, is up for Best Actor for his role in Tick, Tick…Boom!. While discussing his nomination with The Hollywood Reporter, Garfield was asked about the fan outcry at Spider-Man: No Way Home being dropped from the Best Picture race. Here’s what the actor had to say about the situation.
“I’m not in a position to comment on that, specifically. I really love this movie and I really love Amy [Pascal] and Jon Watts and Kevin [Feige] and obviously Tom [Holland], and Zendaya and Jacob [ Batalon] and Tobey [Maguire] and all the actors. This movie has been kind of a behemoth of proportions that I don’t think any of us really expected. I can only speak for myself and I feel fair grateful to be part of something that’s keeping cinemas alive right now, keeping cinemas full and helping with that and making sure that the live experience or the common experience of going to the cinema remains intact. It’s very, very cool to see that audiences are still yearning deeply for the thing that I know we’re all longing for deeply I think Spider-Man is obviously one of those movies right now and it’s so cool, and I’m so, so grateful to be a part of it.
