Barcelona have included an option to sign Yannick Carrasco for a transfer fee of around €15million to €20million this summer when Memphis Depay moves to Atletico Madrid.
Barça and Atletico Madrid have reached an agreement for Memphis, 28, to join the Madrid club later this month, ESPN reported on Thursday. It is a deal that is said to be up to 4 million euros, including the possibility of the rider.
According to club officials, Barça also managed to insert a buyout option into part of the transfer fee so that Carrasco could join the club permanently.
Carrasco’s agent, Pini Zahabi, revealed earlier this week that the two clubs are in talks about a possible exchange trade for the two players.
But with Memphis and Barça’s contract expiring in June, Atletico ruled out the possibility of a direct exchange this month, believing Carrasco to be worth more.
The 29-year-old Carrasco is making his second career with Atlético after the Dalian professional in China. The Belgium national team can play on the left wing or full-back, while Memphis can play all up front.
The latest in a series of transfers between Barça and Atlético. Antoine Griezmann returned to Atletico permanently after leaving Los Rohiblancos in 2019 to join Barcelona.
Some players have played for both teams in recent years, such as Luis Suarez, Arda Turan and David Villa.
Atlético, who beat Levante 2–0 on Wednesday to reach the Copa del Rey quarter-finals, will host Real Valladolid in La Liga on Saturday.
That game may be too early for Memphis to make his debut as the transfer is yet to be finalized, but he should be under contract for a league match against Osasuna on January 29.
After beating Real Madrid in the Super Cup over the weekend, Barça will travel to Ceuta in the third division for the Copa on Thursday and will host Getafe in La Liga on Sunday.
