“Laporta) will have to explain why he did this in his first term as president. That’s what I want clarified. The Treasury investigated) in just three seasons. There are many more.”

Tebas has already been over five years since Barça stopped paying La Liga referee Negreira between 1977 and 1992, regardless of the outcome of an ongoing investigation. Therefore, I have confirmed that I will not be subject to sports sanctions. The statute of limitations under Spain’s new sports law is three years.

He said La Liga would cooperate with the investigation and decide what action the league would take if Barça were found guilty of any wrongdoing.

Meanwhile, Sevilla and Espanyol have issued statements questioning the payments made by Barça and demanding full and transparent answers as to why.

These are the only two clubs in the Primera División so far, but Tebas says he’s worried about La Liga as a whole.

“Most clubs are worried, including Barcelona,” he added. “It’s done a lot of damage to Spanish football. [The club] wants it to be investigated to the end.” “Barça have also launched an internal investigation.”

Barca’s payment to Negreira stopped in 2018. El Mundo reported last week that he then threatened to reveal “fraud” if not reopened. he didn’t do it. Another El Mundo report on Tuesday also noted that he attempted to blackmail the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) upon his release in 2018.

In a statement as part of the case, he told investigators that he had provided “verbal advice” and had never benefited Barcelona and had never been in charge of refereeing assignments.

“Barça wanted to avoid a refereeing decision against them,” the inspector’s report said. “In other words, everything was neutral.”
