Bayern Munich wants to sign Manchester City defender Joao Cancelo.
Sunsport revealed last week that several clubs are monitoring the situation of the ex-Juventus man who has been displaced at the Etihad.
AC Milan were among them, but Bayern made progress over the weekend and initially appeared confident of signing the Portuguese player on loan.
An option to buy the 28-year-old Cancelo at the end of the season for around £61.5m is known to be included.
That would mean a small profit on the player he signed for £60m three-and-a-half years ago.
Still, full-backs are known to have problems, so it would be a surprise deal for City.
But his City career has stalled since returning from the World Cup last month.
He started in the defeats to Southampton and Manchester United, but missed the next two games.
His only start since his restart was against Chelsea, but he was sent off by Pep Guardiola at half-time.
The Etihad bosses recently opted to use young Rico Ruiz and centre-back Natan Ake at full-back.
Guardiola called Mr Cancelo ‘Mr Cancelo’ after the game, hinting at potential problems.
Cancelo signed a contract extension with City 12 months ago and is currently linked to the club until the summer of 2027.
His teammate Kyle Walker is also out this season, with Turkey’s Fenerbahce interested.
Cancelo appears to have brought City’s attention to Bayern’s offer, and the champions have decided to listen.
The club is aware that Cancelo would like to play more regularly and believes he will not be able to play for the Etihad this season.
Guardiola have used a different style and formation lately and don’t think Cancelo’s game suits them better.
The arrival of Rico Ruiz, with his surprising speed for Guardiola, provided valuable cover in the full-back area.
City’s only left-back is Spanish youngster Sergio Gomes, but Nathan Ake and Aymeric Laporte are both capable of filling the role.
With the summer signing of Manuel Akanji, Pep now has five centre-backs, and removing one is not seen as a big deal.
