Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has been admitted to a hospital in Florida with stomach pains, his wife has announced.

It comes a day after thousands of supporters stormed government offices in the Brazilian capital.

Bolsonaro was taken to a hospital near Orlando on Monday, reports said.

The former president was stabbed in 2018 and has suffered from occasional stomach pains since.

Michelle Bolsonaro confirmed on her Instagram on Monday that her husband is under observation due to discomfort in her stomach.

A source close to his family said his condition was “no cause for concern,” according to Reuters. The story was first reported by Brazilian news outlet O Globo.

Bolsonaro left Brazil about 10 days ago for the United States. He refused to participate in the handover of power to President Luis Inacio Lula da Silva that took place last week.

Since arriving in the United States about 48 hours before Lula’s inauguration, Bolsonaro has been staying at a property owned by a professional mixed martial artist.

On Monday, São Paulo natives Rosângela and Wellington stopped by the Angkor Resort at Reunion Residences for a photo op outside Bolsonaro’s temporary residence.

For them, it was like visiting a tourist destination. Taking the opportunity to take a photo, she jumps out of the car with a smile and poses.

Immediately after that, a man at the residence said to him in Portuguese, “Please don’t park on the street.”

The community is gated, but a handful of reporters enter through a side gate and the Brazilians get into their cars and park them near their homes.

Another Brazilian quartet sat on the sidewalk in front of their house for over an hour. They see nothing and expect nothing. They just want to sit and feel familiar, even though Bolsonaro doesn’t live there.

“We are talking about and remembering Brazil.”
