Chelsea make a record €119million bid for Enzo Fernandes and hope to finalize his move from Benfica

Chelsea have made a €119m bid for Benfica star Enzo Fernandes.

If the bid goes through, it would break the UK transfer record.

According to The Telegraph, the Blues are confident that a deal will be reached.

Manager Graham Potter is reportedly fully backing the club to sign the 22-year-old.

Chelsea tried to sign him earlier this month, but Benfica ruled the €68m and €100m bids insufficient and turned down the move.

Fernandes has a €119m release clause that Chelsea want to pay.

However, I would like to spread out the payments by paying a large amount up front and then sending smaller amounts of money to Portugal in five installments.

This leaves room for negotiations between the two clubs.

Fernandes wants to move to Chelsea and needs the approval of Benfica president Rui Costa, but personal terms are not considered to be a problem at this stage.

The Argentinian star, who won the Young Player of the Tournament award at the Qatar World Cup, has come to the attention of Chelsea.

If the transfer does materialize, it would exceed the €113million paid by Manchester City for Jack Grealish in the summer of 2021.

He also breaks Chelsea’s transfer record by surpassing the €111m he spent on Romelu Lukaku.

Fernandez is the eighth player to sign in the January transfer window, following big players such as Mihailo Madryc, Noni Madueque and Benoît Badiashile.

The club have spent €513m since Todd Boelhy took over, and Fernandes will make well over €569m.

Everton have made a €51million bid for Conor Gallagher and the club have been able to recoup their money.
