Chelsea have signed Argentina World Cup star Enzo Fernandez for a record €120 million in British history.
Bruce has been chasing the midfielder since the transfer window opened in January, but left it until the last minute to complete his deal with minutes to spare.
The Benfica midfielder has become the cash-cramped Blues’ eighth signing in a month.
Owner Todd Boehly puts in more money than any other club in a single transfer window.
The deal eclipses the £100million Manchester City spent on Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish in 2021.
And the amount Chelsea have spent in the last two windows is a whopping €682m, including additional costs and loan fees.
Fernandes, 22, after undergoing a medical in Lisbon yesterday, negotiations stalled over a payment structure and a proposal for the Argentinian player to remain on loan at Benfica until the end of the season.
I signed an eight and a half years (8 and a half years) contract until June 2031.
Chelsea could end up paying €124.5m, including extras, for a player who has scored just two goals this season.
It is said that €40m will be paid upfront, with the remainder to be paid in five installments.
