Colorado police are investigating Ja Morant in the wake of an Instagram Live video

Colorado police said Monday they were investigating Ja Morant’s behavior over the weekend after he posted an Instagram Live video of the Memphis Grizzlies star displaying what looked like a gun while in a nightclub. .

Glendale Police confirmed the incident took place at a bar in Glendale, a small enclave surrounded by Denver known for its strip clubs and shopping malls. The department said it was investigating whether Morant may have violated firearms laws.

According to ESPN, the incident took place at Shotgun Willie’s, which describes itself as a “gentlemen’s club.” ESPN contacted Shotgun Willie’s on Monday and said the person who answered the call hung up on the reporter multiple times.

Colorado is an open-carry state, with some exceptions, such as carrying guns on federal property. In Colorado, it is illegal to own a firearm while under the influence of alcohol.

NBA rules prohibit players from carrying firearms on team property or while traveling to work. In footage Morant livestreamed, it’s unclear if he’s drunk, but others are seen drinking.

Inspector Jamie Dillon told the Associated Press that police had not received any calls or complaints about Morant’s actions, but that they had launched an investigation on Saturday after learning that the video was circulating online.

Morant has been sidelined by the team while the NBA conducts an investigation. Before Memphis lost to the LA Clippers on Sunday, manager Taylor Jenkins said the Grizzlies have not given him a clear timetable for his comeback. Memphis will face the Lakers in Los Angeles on Tuesday night.
