Tech billionaire and second-richest man in the world, Elon Musk, is considering a bid for Manchester United.
The Glazer family made it clear in November that they were willing to listen to a stake or takeover offer from the Premier League giant.
Several companies have expressed interest in buying United, which could fetch more than €5 billion, a world record for a sports franchise.
Merchant bank Raines Group is leading the sale, with interest coming from the Far East, the Middle East and the United States.
British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who is a fan of Manchester United, is also interested.
However, Musk, who owns Twitter and Tesla, also likes Manchester United, according to the Daily Mail.
Mr. Musk, 51, who is valued at €177 billion, is one of the few people who can buy the “red devil.”
He is second only to Bernard Arnault, CEO and chairman of luxury goods maker LMVH, at €176million.
Following United’s IPO, Musk appears to be watching the situation closely.
He thinks the South African great has an opportunity at Old Trafford that he must not miss.
But the Friday deadline for bids is fast approaching.
Musk has already set his Twitter followers on fire by claiming he intends to buy Manchester United.
Elon Musk tweeted in August last year, “Buying Manchester United again, welcome.”
“No, it’s a running joke on Twitter,” Tesla’s boss replied.
“Don’t buy any sports team”.
If it’s a “team”, it’s Manchester United. It was my favorite team when I was a kid. ”
He added, “Standup is my side business.”
