Cristiano Ronaldo is understandably angry after Manchester United lost 3–6 to Manchester City.
And he will be even more upset to learn that City newcomer Arlene Haaland has tied one of his goalscoring records in just eight games.
Haaland scored his third Premier League hat-trick in Sunday’s derby.
As a result, in the Premier League hat-trick ranking, he is tied with Ronaldo three times each.
But it took him 232 games to reach that number.
He scored his first hat-trick of the season against Crystal Palace and a week later against Nottingham Forest.
Haaland got off to a phenomenal start to the season by becoming the first player to score three consecutive goals at home.
He is also the fastest player to score three hat-tricks in the Premier League (behind Michael Owen in 48 games).
Haaland scored a hat-trick alongside Phil Foden to break the all-time record for goals scored in a Manchester derby.
Leandro Trossard was the only player to score three goals this weekend and his hat-trick almost helped Brighton win their first match since the Graham Potter era.
Ronaldo was not used in today’s game, but Erik Ten Hag gave a strange explanation as to why the striker was not used.
As the 37-year-old looked on in anger, the Dutch coach said he had kept Ronaldo “out of respect for his great career”.
