FOOTBALL: Robert Lewandowski in tears after scoring his first World Cup goal

The 34-year-old Barcelona striker has scored in empty nets in all four of his World Cup appearances before Poland take on powerhouses Saudi Arabia.

Poland’s first half wasn’t great for Lewandowski. He broke World Cup booding by prompting a boot change at halftime.

Lewandowski took advantage of a Saudi defender’s mistake to bring down the keeper and complete Piotr Zielinski’s first-half goal.

Lewandowski was emotional, crying and celebrating after being pestered by his teammate.

It was Lewandowski’s 77th goal for Poland and his 604th career goal.

Lewandowski was blocked by a crate before scoring, making the goal all the sweeter.

With a 2–0 victory, Poland are top of Group C at the World Cup.

Poland are undefeated after two games after drawing with Mexico in the group stage opener.

And Saturday’s 2–0 win put Poland on four points with a game against Argentina.

Argentina will face Mexico on Saturday at 7pm and a loss would mean an early exit for Lionel Messi and his team.

Argentina, one of the favorites to win the title, was under pressure after losing 2–1 to Saudi Arabia.
