N’golo Kanté predicted Chelsea’s Champions League victory

Chelsea goal­keep­er Edouard Mendy dis­closed team­mate N’Go­lo Kan­te’s aston­ish­ing pre­dic­tion ahead of Chelsea’s run to their sec­ond Cham­pi­ons League triumph

Chelsea goal­keep­er Edouard Mendy told “the best anec­dote” of the club’s rise to the Cham­pi­ons League title last season.

The Blues beat Man­ches­ter City in the final in May to be crowned Euro­pean cham­pi­ons for the sec­ond time in their his­to­ry thanks to the win­ner of Kai Havertz.

Mendy played his part in the win by keep­ing his clean sheet clean, although he was large­ly untest­ed by a City side who only man­aged one shot on target.

This was large­ly due to the indomitable Kan­te’s pres­ence in mid­field, the French­man being crowned man of the match for his tire­less performance.

Chelsea entered the 2020/21 sea­son as an under­dog to lift the Cham­pi­ons League tro­phy but, remark­ably, Kante pre­dict­ed they would go all the way before their first group stage game. That’s accord­ing to Mendy, who recalled his con­ver­sa­tion with the 30-year-old as they trav­eled to Stam­ford Bridge to host Sevil­la in Octo­ber 2020.
