Inter Milan are reportedly interested in signing Manchester United captain Harry Maguire.
The England centre-back has plummeted from the Red Devils pecking order this season and could make an unexpected move despite his World Cup glory.
Serie A have made inquiries about the 29-year-old and are believed to have offered him a loan deal.
But the player wants to wait until the summer to decide his long-term future.
The Daily Mail reports that Maguire hopes that if injuries or suspensions become a problem for manager Erik Ten Hag, he will be patient to take his chances.
Maguire recently stressed that he does not want to be a bit part player at Manchester United.
After starting the FA Cup against Reading, he said: “I’m 29 and I’ve never been in this position in my career.
You don’t need to get used to it, but this is part of soccer. I have to push, train well and seize the opportunity when it comes.
“It was my first appearance in two and a half weeks, and I think I did well.
I’ve been working hard on “training”. The players who participated did well. We have to be ready when the opportunity comes.”
“Everyone is needed in the second half of the season”
Maguire has started just 20% of Premier League games this season.
He made Lisandro Martinez and Rafael Varane his first choice centre-backs, and has played a total of 16 times for Ten Hag.
Inter are looking to sign a new centre-back as Milan Skriniar is on the verge of a move to Paris Saint-Germain.
Manager Simone Inzaghi has also expressed interest in Maguire’s team-mate Victor Lindelof, who could replace him in January.
The offer was turned down by Manchester United, who are desperate to secure a key player ahead of their busy schedules.
The Red Devils, who have continued to go from strength to strength in every competition this season, have plenty of midweek games ahead of them, with the Europa League soon to resume and a tough game against Barcelona ahead of them.
