Liverpool life ban supporter who almost harmed Andy Robertson against Manchester United

The Premier League club on Monday announced a life ban from Anfield for the fan who nearly injured Andy Robertson after clashing with Liverpool players celebrating his seventh goal against Manchester United.

As the players celebrated Sunday’s final goal in a 7–0 thrashing of their rivals, the fan ran onto the pitch, slid and collided with Robertson, who grabbed his ankle and went down, but the defender finished the match.

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of trespassing on a football field, according to Merseyside police.

“There is no excuse for this unacceptable and dangerous conduct,” Liverpool said in a statement. “The safety of our players, teammates and fans is of utmost importance.

“The club is now continuing its formal sanctions process and suspending the suspect’s account until the process is completed.

“If found guilty of entering the ground without permission, the offender could have a criminal record and be banned for life from Anfield and all Premier League stadiums. These actions are dangerous and illegal and with serious consequences.”

Police said their officers are working with the club on the incident.

“He will voluntarily attend Merseyside Police Station in connection with this incident,” it said in a statement.

The fan was escorted by the stewards and also reprimanded by Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp, raging on the touchline as the assistant referee tried to calm him down.

The result moves Liverpool into fifth place, three points behind fourth-placed Tottenham, with one game left. Liverpool will face relegated Bournemouth on Saturday.
