Liverpool struggling Jürgen Klopp opens door to Germany manager

Liv­er­pool man­ag­er Jür­gen Klopp has paved the way for Ger­many coach­ing, admit­ting ‘it’s not out of the question’.

Klopp, 55, has been at Liv­er­pool since Octo­ber 2017.

Dur­ing this time, he trans­formed the Reds from Pre­mier League inel­i­gi­bles to cham­pi­ons and led them to a maid­en title in 2020.

Klopp also holds the FA Cup, and Liv­er­pool’s Cham­pi­ons League win over Tot­ten­ham in 2019 was his biggest highlight.

But the Reds have not been at their best in recent months and are 16 points behind league lead­ers Arsenal.

There­fore, it is report­ed in the home coun­try that “there is final­ly a pos­si­bil­i­ty that Klopp will take office from Germany.”

Hans Flick­’s side were knocked out in the World Cup group stage, and while they will back him for now, the Ger­man FA could decide on a change at a lat­er date.

Klopp signed a new long-term con­tract with Liv­er­pool last year and remains com­mit­ted to the project.

But he has now opened the door to Ger­many’s coach­ing career, telling Bild news­pa­per: “It’s not entire­ly out of the ques­tion that I could one day become the nation­al team coach.”

“But it has to fit, and so far it has­n’t fit. And if I fin­ish my con­tract at Liv­er­pool, I def­i­nite­ly won’t do any­thing for a year.

Klopp was already out of Ger­many’s squad when Joachim Lowe left a year and a half ago.

And the tac­ti­cian says he will be out of foot­ball for a year when the time comes to leave Anfield.

In fact, there are even reports that Klopp is open to tak­ing over as Eng­land man­ag­er after the depar­ture of Gareth Southgate.

Last month, a rep­re­sen­ta­tive denied any con­nec­tion between Klopp and the Ger­man nation­al team.

Marc Kosicke said: “Jür­gen Klopp has no inten­tion of resign­ing from Liv­er­pool FC.”

“It was tak­en into con­sid­er­a­tion by the club own­ers before the start of the sea­son that prob­lems could arise again this sea­son due to the close com­pe­ti­tion last season.

“Jür­gen has the sup­port of the per­son in charge and is in reg­u­lar contact.

“He loves the club, the team and the fans and is deter­mined to con­tin­ue and make his move with Liv­er­pool successful.

“He did­n’t extend his con­tract until 2026 in vain.”
