Barcelona manager Xavi has admitted he wants to keep Memphis Depay this month.
The striker has made just two appearances in La Liga.
Depay, 28, has been linked with a return to Manchester United, where he played between 2015 and 2017.
But despite the striker’s lack of success, Xavi wants the Dutchman to stay at Barcelona.
When asked about Depay’s future, the 42-year-old replied, “He doesn’t want anyone out.” I am happy with this team.
There seems to be no “market”. I am happy with Depay.
“He has a good attitude and will be important to us. He has the ability to make a difference.
“He will get a chance. Like everyone else.”
Depay originally joined Manchester United from PSV in the summer of 2015.
He appeared in 53 games for the Red Devils, scoring just seven points and providing six assists.
A year and a half later, the striker moved to Ligue 1 side Lyon, where his fortunes changed.
Depay scored 76 goals and provided 55 assists in 178 appearances for Lyon before moving to Barcelona on a free transfer in the summer of 2021.
After scoring 13 goals in his debut for the Catalan side, he has been forgotten this season.
The muscular forward, who can also play on the wing, has made just two La Liga appearances this season (last in September).
He missed the World Cup with a thigh injury, but was part of the Dutch national team in Qatar.
Depay came on as a substitute in a 1–1 draw with Barcelona’s Espanyol, who returned to domestic competition last Saturday.
Like the Red Devils, Newcastle are said to be on the verge of signing Depay in January.
Juventus had already shown interest in him last summer, but were unable to agree a deal.
