Pele hospitalized battling cancer: daughter says it’s not an emergency

Brazilian football legend Pele has been hospitalized as part of his battle with cancer, his daughter announced Wednesday on social media, adding that there was “no surprise or emergency.”

Kelly Nascimento’s Instagram post comes after ESPN Brazil reported that Pele was admitted to Albert Einstein Hospital with “a generalized swelling” and is undergoing several tests to further assess his health problems. It was conducted.

“There are a lot of alarm bells in the media today about his father’s health. He is adjusting his medication in the hospital,” Nascimento wrote. There are no “emergencies” or “new serious prognoses.” I will definitely go on New Year’s Day, so I promise to post pictures. ”

The 82-year-old had a colon tumor removed in September 2021, and has been in and out of the hospital regularly for treatment since then.

A source confirmed to ESPN Brazil that Pele has undergone several tests to further evaluate his health problems.

Pelé’s representative and the Albert Einstein Hospital did not immediately respond to a request for comment, but medical staff report arthropathy, generalized edema and decompression of heart failure, according to people familiar with the matter. .

Officials also confirmed that medical staff were concerned that Pele had heart problems and that the chemotherapy would not work.

Regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time, Pele has had a series of health problems in recent years, including surgery on his hip joint, which recurred in pain and made it difficult for him to walk on his own.
