The next time you need to pick a soundtrack for your Snapchat video, you may not need to hem it anymore. Snap has introduced an Auto Sound feature to help produce clips faster.
For example, Sound Recommendations suggests music related to the AR (Augmented Reality) lens you’re using. For example, using the bread lens, you’ll see a lot of songs related to toast, along with the most popular and common songs.
Sounds Sync, on the other hand, creates montage videos synchronized to the beats of songs in your Sounds collection. You’ll need photos and videos between 4 and 20, but this could help you wrap up a holiday or social outing without worrying about the right tune.
Both features are available to iOS users in the US and are rolling out worldwide. Sound Recommendations are available for Android users, but you’ll have to wait until March to try out Sound Sync.
Snap has never been shy about its goals. The easier it is to create videos, the more likely you are to post them on Snapchat.
Snap’s head of music strategy Manny Adler said it’s a “unique opportunity” for musicians to reach listeners, who will (hopefully) play the full song after hearing it on someone’s video. Say you will.
The introduction comes at a good time for Snap. Despite laying off about 1,300 employees last summer, Snapchat has 750 million monthly active users, and the company’s audience is growing after a turbulent 2022.
While it remains far smaller than rivals such as Instagram, which had 2 billion monthly active users as of last fall, it regularly puts up with feature copycat competition. Small additions like Sounds Recommendations and Sync would help Snap maintain its growth.
