PEP GUARDIOLA has tested positive for Covid and will miss the FA Cup game on Friday night in Swindon after a massive outbreak of 21 people in Man City.
are among 21 cases at the Etihad — seven of those affected are seen as players who could have played against the League Two team.
However, as it stands, City are keen for the program to continue and are not currently considering requesting a postponement.
At City, coach Rodolfo Borrell will perform media duties on Thursday afternoon to preview the game and take charge of the squad.
Guardiola was scared ahead of the clash with Newcastle on December 19 when his test came back as “inconclusive”.
He then performed a PCR test which came out negative and was therefore able to take charge of the team in the comfortable victory at St James’ Park.
However, he tested positive on Tuesday and will be away from the Etihad campus until the middle of next week.
City will be hopeful this won’t affect their preparations for Prem’s tightening against Chelsea at the Etihad next Saturday.
Guardiola confirmed on New Years Day that midfielder Phil Foden tested positive ahead of his Arsenal win — while Kyle Walker was also affected.
He said: “We have had many cases of Covid and many injuries. At Arsenal we were incredibly tired.
A city statement this Thursday at noon said: “Pep Guardiola will miss tomorrow night’s FA Cup trip to Swindon Town after testing positive for Covid-19.
“The City manager tested positive on Tuesday with assistant Juanma Lillo.
“The two are now isolated, along with a number of other positive cases within City’s first team bubble.
“This brings to 21 the number of people isolated for reasons related to Covid within the group.
“Of those, 14 are backstage staff and seven are first team players. Assistant coach Rodolfo Borrell will take charge of the team for the trip to Swindon.”
