TECH: Some users’ accounts have been suspended due to an Instagram bug

Insta­gram users around the world are report­ing issues with not being able to access their profiles.

The Meta-owned social net­work has said the mat­ter is “inves­ti­gat­ing” and some peo­ple have been told they will be sus­pend­ed from the platform.

Thou­sands of users have been affect­ed, accord­ing to Down­De­tec­tor, which mon­i­tors the outage.

Some peo­ple even got a mes­sage that their account was closed for 30 days.

In a tweet on Insta­gram’s offi­cial com­mu­ni­ca­tion account, he wrote, “We are aware that some peo­ple are unable to access their Insta­gram account.

“We are inves­ti­gat­ing and we apol­o­gize for the inconvenience.”

The com­pa­ny has yet to pro­vide details on the cause of the anomaly.

Some users who still have access to the plat­form are report­ing a sig­nif­i­cant drop in fol­low­er counts as sus­pend­ed accounts affect­ed by this issue have dis­ap­peared from the site.

Last week, meta-mes­sag­ing plat­form What­sApp suf­fered an out­age that took it out of ser­vice for about two hours.
