Tesla plans to spend more than $770 million on Texas factory expansion

Tes­la reg­is­tered an expan­sion of its Austin, Texas elec­tric car fac­to­ry ear­li­er this year.

Texas Licens­ing and Reg­is­tra­tion Office fil­ings show Tes­la will spend more than $770 mil­lion on-site to test and man­u­fac­ture bat­tery cells, man­u­fac­ture cath­odes and dri­ve units, and build facil­i­ties such as a die shop It turned out to be the plan.

The Austin Busi­ness Jour­nal pre­vi­ous­ly report­ed on plans and mate­ri­als sub­mit­ted by Tesla.

The Elon Musk-led automak­er offi­cial­ly opened its elec­tric car and bat­tery fac­to­ry in Texas in April 2022, where it host­ed a “cyber rodeo” par­ty for share­hold­ers and fans.

Tes­la cur­rent­ly builds parts of its Mod­el Y crossover util­i­ty vehi­cle in Austin, and plans to mass-pro­duce its uncon­ven­tion­al sci-fi-inspired Cybertruck pick­up truck there.

After the com­pa­ny ini­tial­ly opened an Austin fac­to­ry and anoth­er vehi­cle assem­bly plant out­side Berlin, Ger­many, Musk called both facil­i­ties “giant gold ovens” in an inter­view with Tes­la Own­ers Sil­i­con Valley.
