Barcelona admit they may have to ditch Adama Traore after loaning Wolves star.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has admitted they might not be able to keep Adama Traore beyond the end of the season.

The Spain international, 26, returned to the Nou Camp for a second spell in January — on loan from Wolves until the summer.
And he’s been sparkling, scoring four goals in his first seven games.

Yet, despite an electric return to the club, Barca president Laporta doubts he could sign the winger on a permanent deal.

He said: “We would like Adama Traore to stay here, it’s possible — but we are in a difficult financial situation.

“We’ll see at the end of the season.”

In February, Laporta confirmed that Traore had accepted a pay cut to return to Barcelona.

He said: “We have an option to buy clause included in Adama Traore’s deal with Wolves and our plan is to trigger that clause.

“It’s on him — he made a big push [on salary] to play here at Barca.”

He looked set to join Spurs earlier in the window, but a deal fell through after a disagreement between the player and Tottenham boss Antonio Conte.

According to reports, Traore wanted to be seen as a winger by Conte.

But the Italian coach was keen for him to occupy the right-wing position in his 3–4‑3/3–5‑2 configuration.

And that turned out to be a stumbling block for both sides as Traore agreed to a deal with Barcelona instead.

His current deal with Wolves runs until the end of the 2022–23 campaign.
