Benjamin Mendy has been cleared of raping a women during a party where his victim was confined at his secluded mansion.
The Man City star was accused of being a “predator” who “made a game of chasing women for sexual purposes.”
Mendy, 28, is also said to have locked his victim in a “panic room” and hid her mobile phone so she could not escape.
But the French international was today acquitted of six counts of rape and one of the sexual assaults of four women.
A jury failed to reach a verdict of one rape and one attempted rape against two other alleged victims, so he could face a retrial.
In a six-month trial, jurors were told that Leftback lured a young woman into “harmful and dangerous” situations in her six-bedroom Cheshire home.
Co-defendant Louis Saha Matturie was alleged to have acted as Mendy’s “fixer” by sending a 17-year-old girl to the closing party after spending the night drinking £1,500 of champagne in the VIP section of the club.
Some victims said their phones were taken away upon arrival and they were unable to call for help.
Once inside, the women were treated like “disposables … used for sex and then thrown out,” he said.
However, his attorney Eleanor Rose KC asked the jury to put an end to Mendy’s “absolute hell” and acquit him.
She said the claim that he used his fame to attack women (an accusation that compared him to Jimmy Saville) was “absolutely ridiculous.”
“He’s not the kind of person who would intentionally hurt anyone under any circumstances,” Rose told the court.
If he can’t claim to be a “gluttonous monster”, he deserves to be acquitted.
“One word” is a match.
“Life as he knew it is over, in football, in England — from these allegations he can never escape”.
Several celebrities were dragged into the trial, including Mendy’s Man City teammates.
One of the women claims to have had sex with England hero Jack Grealish at an “afterparty”.
Afterwards, she texted her friend, “I slept with Jack Grealish.”
Kyle Walker was also present at one of Mendy’s mansion parties in July 2021.
