Chelsea ended their nine-game winless streak with a 3–1 win over Bournemouth on Saturday.
Goals from Benoît Badiashile and Joan Felix in the second half lifted Chelsea into 11th place on 42 points, while Bournemouth fell back to 14th, three points behind the London side, who have played one more game.
It was Chelsea’s first win since early March and a welcome victory for Lampard, who has lost the first five games in his second term.
“We wanted to play a good game today. We haven’t had enough results lately, so this was an important game for us.” Conor Gallagher told Premier League Productions, “We played well and I think we deserve the win.”
“Hopefully we can build confidence going forward. I hope we can build confidence going forward. It was a good performance as a team and we just have to keep it up.
Bournemouth had two chances in the first five minutes, but Chelsea’s defense was solid and Gallagher extended his lead with a well-timed run and header.
However, Chelsea were put on the back foot when Bournemouth sent a one-touch pass to Ryan Christie and set Mattias Bina before hitting Kepa Arrizabalaga in the top corner of the box.
Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke went down in the box after a challenge from Thiago Silva in the second half when Chelsea dominated, but VAR ruled that the Brazilian had touched the ball first and the penalty was not awarded.
The penalty kicked off the home team’s momentum, and shortly after, Kepa’s fluid movement invited a save, and Dango Uatara’s header went over the bar from a corner.
However, in the 82nd minute, Chelsea took advantage of Bournemouth’s weakness for set-pieces and Hakim Ziyeck sent the ball to the far post from a free-kick before Badiashile scored his first goal for the club, beating Neto.
Raheem Sterling cut inside and handed the ball over to team-mate Felix, who scored easily.
