FOOTBALL: Erik Ten Hag brought Manchester United the Manager of the Month award for the second time in the last 10 years

Erik Ten Hag has been named Pre­mier League Man­ag­er of the Month. It’s sur­pris­ing­ly rare for a Man­ches­ter Unit­ed manager.

The Dutch­man, who took over this sum­mer, has had a ter­ri­ble start at Old Trafford.

The Red Dev­ils suf­fered a 2–1 home defeat to Brighton on open­ing day.

But in Sep­tem­ber Ten Hag won his first Man­ag­er of the Month award after play­ing just two top-flight games.

In the match against Arse­nal on Sep­tem­ber 4th, he achieved his fourth con­sec­u­tive Pre­mier League vic­to­ry in a thrilling development.

Unfor­tu­nate­ly, the can­cel­la­tion of games against Crys­tal Palace and Leeds Unit­ed put the momen­tum to a halt.

How­ev­er, despite lim­it­ed play­ing time, Unit­ed’s per­for­mances were good enough to award Ten Hag the honor.

And now he’s des­per­ate­ly gear­ing up for Sun­day’s Man­ches­ter der­by against City at the Eti­had to avoid the ter­ri­ble curse sur­round­ing the award.

Ten­hag became the first Unit­ed man­ag­er to win the award since Jan­u­ary 2019.

Ole Gun­nar Sol­sk­jaer was the last man­ag­er to win the title while at Old Trafford.

Leg­endary for­mer Unit­ed man­ag­er Sir Alex Fer­gu­son holds a whop­ping 27 wins in a month record.

And, before Sol­skaya, he was the last man to achieve the hon­or as Unit­ed man­ag­er in Octo­ber 2012.

David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mour­in­ho and Ralf Rang­nick have all failed to win dur­ing their time at Man­ches­ter United.
