Erik Ten Hag has been named Premier League Manager of the Month. It’s surprisingly rare for a Manchester United manager.
The Dutchman, who took over this summer, has had a terrible start at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils suffered a 2–1 home defeat to Brighton on opening day.
After that, they sounded the alarm after losing 4–0 to Brentford away.
But the Dutchman weathered the storm and bounced back with victories at Liverpool and Southampton.
But in September Ten Hag won his first Manager of the Month award after playing just two top-flight games.
A Jadon Sancho goal got the team off to a good start and secured the points away from Leicester.
In the match against Arsenal on September 4th, he achieved his fourth consecutive Premier League victory in a thrilling development.
Unfortunately, the cancellation of games against Crystal Palace and Leeds United put the momentum to a halt.
However, despite limited playing time, United’s performances were good enough to award Ten Hag the honor.
And now he’s desperately gearing up for Sunday’s Manchester derby against City at the Etihad to avoid the terrible curse surrounding the award.
Tenhag became the first United manager to win the award since January 2019.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was the last manager to win the title while at Old Trafford.
Legendary former United manager Sir Alex Ferguson holds a whopping 27 wins in a month record.
And, before Solskaya, he was the last man to achieve the honor as United manager in October 2012.
David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho and Ralf Rangnick have all failed to win during their time at Manchester United.
