Former Chelsea player Christian Atsu has been found alive in the rubble of his home following an earthquake in Turkey.
The 31-year-old Ghanaian star is believed to have been on the ninth floor of a flat block when two earthquakes struck Turkey early Monday morning.
Atsu, who has three children with his wife Marie Claire, plays for Hatayspor, who joined last summer.
The quake slammed heavily in Kahramanmaras, the home of Hatayishpor.
The video showed rescue workers with searchlights searching through the rubble of his apartment all night.
Local media reported hearing Atu’s voice in the rubble, as well as that of Hatay Sports director Tanel Saft.
Hatayspor spokesman Mustafa Ozat reported that “Christian Atu was taken away with an injury.”
“Sports director Taner Savut is unfortunately still under the rubble”
Ghana’s ambassador to Turkey, Francisca Asitei Odanton, said he had received information from the country’s football authorities that Atu had been “discovered.”
The earthquake, which struck at 4am local time, had a dramatic turn of events when several teammates were rescued from their homes.
