Former Chelsea player Christian Atsu has been confirmed alive after found in earthquake’s rubble in Turkey

For­mer Chelsea play­er Chris­t­ian Atsu has been found alive in the rub­ble of his home fol­low­ing an earth­quake in Turkey.

The 31-year-old Ghana­ian star is believed to have been on the ninth floor of a flat block when two earth­quakes struck Turkey ear­ly Mon­day morning.

Atsu, who has three chil­dren with his wife Marie Claire, plays for Hatayspor, who joined last summer.

The quake slammed heav­i­ly in Kahra­man­maras, the home of Hatayishpor.

The video showed res­cue work­ers with search­lights search­ing through the rub­ble of his apart­ment all night.

Local media report­ed hear­ing Atu’s voice in the rub­ble, as well as that of Hatay Sports direc­tor Tanel Saft.

Hatayspor spokesman Mustafa Ozat report­ed that “Chris­t­ian Atu was tak­en away with an injury.”

Ghana’s ambas­sador to Turkey, Fran­cis­ca Asitei Odan­ton, said he had received infor­ma­tion from the coun­try’s foot­ball author­i­ties that Atu had been “dis­cov­ered.”

The earth­quake, which struck at 4am local time, had a dra­mat­ic turn of events when sev­er­al team­mates were res­cued from their homes.
