U.S. : Tennessee woman sentenced to 6 years in prison for using Covid relief funds to travel to Trump resort for plastic surgery

A Tennessee woman, already on probation for fraud for 6 years, stole thousands of dollars from a Covid Inc. relief fund, used the money to go to a Florida resort and get plastic surgery, but this week. He was sentenced to imprisonment and ordered to repay.

Surgoinsville resident Leslie Beshear, 30, was charged in June with wire fraud, money laundering and other charges, after she pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud and one count of lying to a probation officer. Admitted Judge J. Ronnie Greer Monday sentenced Bethea to 78 months in prison.

In March 2021, Beshear applied for a Paycheck Protection Program loan, claiming she made $99,835 in 2019 while serving time for wire fraud, according to the Justice Department. Also, in his application, Bashir claims he has never been convicted of fraud in the past five years.

According to the Justice Department, she received a $20,805 loan from APP in April 2021 to partially pay for a five-day trip to the Trump International Beach Resort in Sunny Isles Beach, Fla.

In the meantime, she also paid for cosmetic surgery, the Justice Department said. Prosecutors say he lied to probation officers about her finances and travel after she returned home.

“After she returned to Tennessee, Beshear, she falsely filed her monthly supervisory report for April 2021 with her probation officer,” the Justice Department said.

“In the report, Beshear falsely claimed to have received only $200 during the month of April, and falsely claimed to have spent no more than $500 (including the Sunny Isles Beach resort formed during his stay in Florida).

I paid more than that for the surgery) and falsely stated that I had not traveled outside of Tennessee during April 2021.”

Bethea was sentenced to prison and ordered to repay her loan.

Bethea’s attorney, Douglas Payne, did not immediately respond to her request for comment.
