Kanye West and his architect wife Bianca Censori have courted controversy during their vacation in Italy due to their risqué outfit choices.
The conservative Catholic nation is known for its modest fashion standards, but photos show the couple dressed in eye-catching ensembles that have divided local opinions.
While dining out in Rome, Bianca, 28, turned heads in a form-fitting catsuit constructed entirely of transparent mesh fabric. The skintight material left little to the imagination, forcing the Australian to occasionally cover her bare breasts with a handbag. Meanwhile, Kanye, 46, obscured himself beneath baggy black layers.
Unsurprisingly, the nude-inspired look sparked an online debate. Some Italians asserted the outfit breached standards of public decency and indecency laws, which prohibit being partially or fully naked in public and can result in fines. However, others argued locals should show more tolerance of cultural differences.
On a previous occasion, Bianca turned heads in an even more revealing see-through top and skirt ensemble. Her visible nipples and lack of undergarments underneath left some inhabitants claiming the attire was too risqué and “disrespectful” of Italy’s modest fashion norms.
The country’s tourism sites warn visitors to respect local sensibilities by avoiding public nudity or minimal beachwear outside coastal areas. However, opinions remain divided on whether the architects crossed a line or should face sanctions such as a fine.
The newlyweds’ attire choices have polarized commentators. While some assert inhabitants deserve respect, others argue for greater open-mindedness. But it highlights the differing social standards between cultures when it comes to displaying the human form. Only time will tell if this high-profile couple continue courting controversy during the rest of their European getaway.
