In a shocking turn of events, Sean “Diddy” Combs has admitted to physically assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Cassie, in a 2016 incident. The music mogul’s confession comes after CNN released video footage of the attack, which shows Combs punching, kicking, and shoving the R&B singer in a hotel hallway.

Addressing the incident in a video statement posted to his social media accounts, Diddy expressed remorse, stating, “I take full responsibility for my actions in that video. I was disgusted then when I did it. I’m disgusted now.” He went on to acknowledge that his behavior was “inexcusable” and that he has sought professional help, including therapy and rehabilitation, to address his actions.

Cassie, whose legal name is Cassandra Ventura, had previously sued Combs in November, alleging years of sexual, physical, and emotional abuse. The lawsuit was settled the next day, but the revelation of the video footage has led to intense scrutiny and additional lawsuits against the hip-hop mogul, as well as a federal criminal sex-trafficking investigation.

In his apology, Diddy expressed his deep remorse, saying, “It’s so difficult to reflect on the darkest times in your life, but sometimes you got to do that. I had to ask God for his mercy and grace. I’m so sorry. But I’m committed to be a better man each and every day. I’m not asking for forgiveness. I’m truly sorry.”

The security camera footage, dated March 5, 2016, closely resembles the incident described in Ventura’s lawsuit. However, neither Combs nor his representatives have addressed the specific allegation that he paid the hotel $50,000 for the video immediately after the incident.

Despite the seriousness of the allegations, Combs is not in danger of criminal prosecution, as the statutes of limitations for the assault and battery charges he would likely face have expired.

As the music industry and the public grapple with the implications of this scandal, Diddy’s admission and apology serve as a sobering reminder of the need for accountability and the importance of addressing issues of domestic violence and abuse within the entertainment industry and beyond.
