The Controversial Comparison
In a recent interview on Nova 96.9’s Fitzy and Wippa with Kate Ritchie, country music star Keith Urban made some bold statements about pop star Miley Cyrus’ distinctive vocal quality.
“I’ve always loved Miley. I love that voice, man, that voice…she sounds like an ashtray. And I mean that as a compliment. She sounds like the carpet at the RSL!” Keith joked.
Criticizing Inauthentic Country Artists
Urban also unleashed on what he perceives as “phoney, ‘BS’ pop artists” who exploit country music in an attempt to appear more authentic.
“It’s a funny thing because you still need the support of the system in Nashville and if you go about it the right way, like Post (Malone) did, you’ll see the love,” Keith said.
“They’re just rootsy, authentic, storytelling people. They’re legit. Aussies like legit. So Luke (Combs) is legit, Lainey Wilson is legit. Morgan Wallen’s legit. I think a lot of people are sick of the BS with a lot of artists…what’s real and what isn’t.”
Keith Urban’s blunt remarks about Miley Cyrus and his criticism of inauthentic country artists have certainly stirred up some controversy in the music industry.
