Keith Urban Says Miley Cyrus Sounds Like ‘An Ashtray’

In a recent inter­view on Nova 96.9’s Fitzy and Wip­pa with Kate Ritchie, coun­try music star Kei­th Urban made some bold state­ments about pop star Miley Cyrus’ dis­tinc­tive vocal quality.

“I’ve always loved Miley. I love that voice, man, that voice…she sounds like an ash­tray. And I mean that as a com­pli­ment. She sounds like the car­pet at the RSL!” Kei­th joked.

Criticizing Inauthentic Country Artists

Urban also unleashed on what he per­ceives as “phoney, ‘BS’ pop artists” who exploit coun­try music in an attempt to appear more authentic.

“It’s a fun­ny thing because you still need the sup­port of the sys­tem in Nashville and if you go about it the right way, like Post (Mal­one) did, you’ll see the love,” Kei­th said. 

“They’re just root­sy, authen­tic, sto­ry­telling peo­ple. They’re legit. Aussies like legit. So Luke (Combs) is legit, Lainey Wil­son is legit. Mor­gan Wal­len’s legit. I think a lot of peo­ple are sick of the BS with a lot of artists…what’s real and what isn’t.”

Kei­th Urban’s blunt remarks about Miley Cyrus and his crit­i­cism of inau­then­tic coun­try artists have cer­tain­ly stirred up some con­tro­ver­sy in the music industry.
