Chris Martin made the announcement on Radio 2 on Wednesday, in a clip before his Christmas show with Jo Whiley on the same channel Thursday night.

“Our last real record will be released in 2025, and after that I think we’re only going to tour,” he said.

“And maybe we’ll do things together, but the Coldplay catalog, so to speak, ends then.”

Whiley told fellow DJ Zoe Ball on her breakfast show that while Martin is “disarmingly honest” in interviews, she is also “never quite sure if he’s joking or is extremely. serious â€œ.

However, on this occasion, his final comments are consistent with what he said about the release of his band’s ninth studio album, Music Of The Spheres, which went straight to number one earlier this year.

Martin told NME in October that they plan to do 12 albums [three more] and then quit. But his last conversation with Whiley is apparently his first date.

He also told Absolute Radio that he envisions his band as a touring actor “like the [Rolling] Stones, it will be so cool if we can still tour in the late 70s.”

“It will be wonderful if anyone wants to come,” he noted.

Coldplay fans have responded to the news on forums like Reddit. “I didn’t enjoy any of their stuff after [fourth album] Viva La Vida, but what a career they had,” one fan noted. “I really think they left their mark on the music in a positive way.”

“They’ll be back in 2030 for more money with a new drummer or guitarist etc like every other big band before them,” another suggested.

“They don’t have to stop,” someone else urged. “They just need to play music until Viva La Vida. Then leave the rest to the bad commercials.”

Another Twitter user responded to the negative comments online about the group, saying, “Remember they’ve raised thousands of dollars for several charities, had several sold-out shows around the world (and are expected to have another in 2022) and are some of the nicest. hearted and selfless people on this earth. Don’t be ugly. â€

Speaking to the BBC recently, conductor Martin said their next tour will be powered in part by a dance floor that generates electricity as fans jump up and down and cycle around the venue.

It’s part of a 12-point plan to reduce their carbon footprint, two years after the group pledged not to shoot until it could do so in a more sustainable way.

Martin said fans will be on a “kinetic floor”. “When they move, they fuel the concert,” he told BBC entertainment correspondent Colin Paterson. “And we also have bikes that do the same.”

Coldplay has had several performances, including their scheduled show at the Capital Jingle Bell Ball in London this month due to positive Covid tests during their tour. They were nominated for Band of the Year and Best Rock / Alternative Group at the Brit Awards in February 2022.
