A young woman who was left severely injured after the lead singer of an Australian punk rock band crowd surfed over her is now reportedly partially paralyzed.

Bird PichĂ©, 24, suffered a “catastrophic spinal injury” after John Floreani, the lead singer of Trophy Eyes, jumped into a mosh pit at their show at Mohawk Place in Buffalo, New York, on April 30.

Disturbing footage shows Piché’s distinctive pink hair bobbing along to the music before Floreani leapt into the crowd in an incident the band said “has shaken us all to our core”.

The music lover’s neck was broken and she was partially paralyzed — but she has since regained feeling in her arms and fingers according to family friend Leo Wolters Tejera.

The show was immediately stopped and Floreani accompanied PichĂ© to the hospital where she has undergone “extensive surgery”. Tejera, who has launched a fundraiser to cover Piché’s medical expenses, recalled the incident happened during the band’s opening song.

“He (Floreani) stage dove into the crowd, and there must just not have been enough people around there to catch him, or they weren’t aware that he was going to jump,” he said. Another commenter who claimed to be standing behind PichĂ© as Floreani dove from the stage previously said the singer was “clearly devastated” after realizing he’d hurt her.

Trophy Eyes have donated $5,000 to the GoFundMe for Piché’s medical bills and loss of income. The Newcastle, Australia based band also tweeted their condolences to her family, stating the “situation has shaken us all to our core” and they will help PichĂ© “navigate this difficult time”.

The incident has left Piché with a long road to recovery ahead as she continues to receive treatment for her severe spinal injury sustained at the concert.
