Disgraced R&B singer R. Kelly has lost his bid to quash a 20-year jail sentence for child sex attacks in Chicago. The federal appeals court rejected Kelly’s challenge, ensuring that the sentence remains in place.

Kelly’s attorneys had argued that the indictment was filed after the statute of limitations had expired, and that the 20-year sentence was excessively harsh. However, the appeals court sided with the original decision, maintaining the singer’s conviction.

The ruling sends a clear message that the justice system will not tolerate sexual abuse and exploitation of minors, no matter how powerful the perpetrator may be. As Kelly serves his time, victims and their families can take some measure of comfort in knowing that justice has been served.
