Ray J, the forÂmer singer and Kim KarÂdashiÂanâs ex-partÂner, has spoÂken out about the proÂfound impact of Kim KarÂdashiÂanâs sexÂtape with him in 2007 had on popÂuÂlar culÂture and the traÂjecÂtoÂry of the KarÂdashiÂan-JenÂner famÂiÂlyâs rise to fame.
In a recent interÂview on ShanÂnon Sharpeâs podÂcast âClub Shay Shay,â Ray J made some bold claims about the culÂturÂal shift trigÂgered by the release of the tape.
He sugÂgestÂed that if the tape had nevÂer surÂfaced, the world would be a funÂdaÂmenÂtalÂly difÂferÂent place, with fewÂer opporÂtuÂniÂties like OnlyÂFans and potenÂtialÂly more peoÂple purÂsuÂing highÂer education.
âHow difÂferÂent would we all be? How difÂferÂent would this whole f*cking thing be? How difÂferÂent would this indusÂtry be?â Ray J mused, ponÂderÂing the far-reachÂing conÂseÂquences of the infaÂmous sex tape.
The 43-year-old singer, who is curÂrentÂly proÂmotÂing his new sinÂgle âThrowÂing Stacks,â believes the tape was a catÂaÂlyst that reset culÂture as we know it. He explained that the tapeâs impact was so sigÂnifÂiÂcant that it might have altered the way peoÂple dress and the very nature of the enterÂtainÂment industry.
âEveryÂthing would be difÂferÂent. There might not be any OnlyÂFans and all the things like that. All the opporÂtuÂniÂties like that. ProbÂaÂbly more peoÂple would be going to colÂlege,â Ray J speculated.
While the sex tape proÂpelled Kim KarÂdashiÂanâs rise to globÂal fame and the exploÂsive sucÂcess of the KarÂdashiÂan-JenÂner brand, Ray J now expressÂes mixed feelÂings about his involveÂment. He admitÂted to being embarÂrassed by the tape, espeÂcialÂly now that he has children.
âI have kids now. EveryÂthing I did now when we have kids is just totalÂly difÂferÂent. The whole thing is wacky. With my kids itâs not OK,â he said.
Despite the tapeâs lastÂing impact, Ray J is deterÂmined to âmake it rightâ and shift the narÂraÂtive surÂroundÂing the notoÂriÂous video. He quesÂtions whether he and the tape are âa part of the cure or [are] we a part of the disÂease,â sugÂgestÂing a desire to reframe the culÂturÂal legaÂcy of the sex tape.
