Sweden’s Loreen makes history with Eurovision 2023 victory

Loreen, the Swedish pop singer, has won the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 with her song “Tattoo”, a catchy ballad about a lasting love. She beat 25 other countries in the final, held in Liverpool, England, on behalf of war-torn Ukraine.

This is her second Eurovision win, after she triumphed in 2012 with “Euphoria”. She is the first woman and the second person ever to win the contest twice, matching the record of Ireland’s Johnny Logan. She also gave Sweden its seventh Eurovision crown, tying with Ireland for the most wins in the history of the competition.

Loreen said she was “overwhelmed” and “surreal” by her victory, which was celebrated by fans in Sweden and across Europe. She received 340 points from the jury and public votes, followed by Finland’s Kaarija with 277 points and Israel’s Noa Kirel with 250 points.

The Eurovision Song Contest is a popular annual event that showcases diverse musical acts from across the continent and beyond. It is watched by millions of viewers around the world and often features extravagant and eccentric performances.

This year’s theme was “united by music”, reflecting the spirit of solidarity and resilience amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
