Last summer, Netflix launched a spatial sound system that requires no special equipment. After debuting the technology on several titles, including the fourth season of Stranger Things, Netflix is rolling out the technology to a wider range of titles.
However, you need to be a premium member to use it. According to the company, more than 700 highly rated titles, including “The Watcher,” “Wednesday,” and “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery,” already have space audio available.
A Space Audio badge on a show or movie makes it clear whether the title supports that format. Also, if you search for “space audio”, a list of compatible titles will be displayed. In the future, you will be able to watch more series and movies with space audio enabled, including You, Your Place or Mine, Luther: The Setting Sun, and Tour de France.
Netflix has partnered with Sennheiser to adopt 2ch spatial audio technology “Ambeo”. It is specifically designed for integrated stereo speakers installed in laptops and tablets.
Netflix says spatial audio should work well on TVs that aren’t too far from the viewer and on cell phones with stereo speakers. Spatial audio will also provide a more immersive experience for those using headphones.
Starting today, premium members will be able to take advantage of features that are especially useful for those who watch Netflix series and movies on the go and on multiple devices. You will be able to download titles from 4 different devices to 6 different devices.
This gives ad-supported members 6 more devices to download shows and movies from.
