A Brazilian influencer has tragically died after undergoing liposuction on her knees.
Luana Andrade, 29, suffered four cardiac arrests after undergoing surgery in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Her liposuction was performed by Andrade’s private physician and anesthetist hired by her family.
Dr. Diobane Luaro, a plastic surgeon and president of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgeons, has given interviews to local media since the news of his tragic death broke.
According to him, Andrade appeared to be in good health before undergoing surgery.
The operation was halted and the patient underwent tests, which revealed a massive thrombosis.
“She was transferred to the ICU and given medication and hemodynamic treatment.
The cause of her influenza’s death was listed as pulmonary embolism due to complications during surgery.
A pulmonary embolism is a sudden blockage of the pulmonary artery, the blood vessel that supplies blood to the lungs.
“There is no surgery without risks, and especially surgical procedures, there is no medical procedure that does not involve some risks,” Dr. Eduardo Teixeira of the Brazilian University of Plastic Surgery told local media.
