Rochester Hills, Michigan — A seemingly random shooting at a popular water park in Rochester Hills has left a community in shock. An 8‑year-old boy is in critical condition after being shot in the head by a 42-year-old gunman who opened fire at the Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad on Saturday evening.

Eight people were injured in the attack, including two other children, a 4‑year-old boy and a 39-year-old woman. Authorities described the gunman’s rampage as “random” with no apparent connection to the victims.

The gunman, whose identity has not been released, fired 28 rounds from a handgun before fleeing the scene. Responding officers quickly identified his vehicle and tracked him to a nearby residence. After a tense standoff, police found the suspect deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard expressed his devastation at the incident, calling it his “worst nightmare.” The attack has sparked outrage from local and state officials, with Congressman John James and Governor Gretchen Whitmer offering their condolences and support to the victims and community.
