The upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics face a significant challenge as alarmingly high levels of E. coli have been detected in the Seine River.

The river, which flows through the heart of Paris, was set to host the triathlon portion of the Olympic Games.

However, recent tests conducted by the Surfrider Foundation Europe revealed dangerously high concentrations of E. coli and enterococci bacteria, raising concerns over the safety of athletes and the potential need to relocate the event.

Paris has been actively working on cleaning up the Seine River for several years, but these latest findings indicate that more effort may be needed to ensure the water quality is safe for the Olympic Games.

With the event just over 100 days away, the organizers of the Paris Olympics must now assess the situation and determine whether the triathlon can proceed as planned or if an alternative location or solution is required.
