Alleged Trump Assassin’s Self-Published Book
Ryan Wesley Routh, the 58-year-old man accused of attempting to assassinate Donald Trump at his golf club on Sunday, had previously urged the Iranian regime to kill the former president in a self-published book.
Routh’s Book Blames Himself for Voting Trump
In the book titled “Ukraine’s Unwinnable War,” Routh apologizes to Iranians and says he blames himself for voting for Trump in 2016, calling him a “retarded child” and saying no one in the U.S. had the “balls” to assassinate him.
Routh’s Failed Attempts to Fight in Ukraine
The book also chronicles Routh’s failed attempts to fight in Ukraine after the 2022 Russian invasion. He traveled to Poland hoping to enlist but was turned away due to his age and lack of military experience. Routh later set up a makeshift tent for international volunteers in Kyiv, only to have it torn down by authorities.
Routh Criticizes Lack of Support from Ukrainians
Throughout the book, Routh complains that he had to pay for his own lodging and food in Ukraine and received no help from the Ukrainians, whose freedom he claims he was trying to fight for.
Routh’s Arrest and Charges
Routh was arrested on Sunday after a Secret Service agent spotted him with an AK-47-style rifle near the fifth and sixth holes of Trump’s golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida. He has been charged with possessing a firearm despite a prior felony conviction and having a firearm with its serial number removed.
