Authorities are looking into the tragic choking death of a 6‑month-old British baby girl during a family holiday at a five-star resort in Turkey.
Little Elizabeth Coffey tragically passed away after choking on food at the Land of Legends Kingdom Hotel in Antalya, according to hospital officials. Her parents, Michael and Elizabeth Coffey, were enjoying a family getaway with around 30 relatives when the unthinkable happened on Saturday morning.
The family immediately sought help upon realizing Elizabeth was having trouble breathing. Medical staff were quick to respond to the emergency at the resort. The infant was then rushed to a nearby private hospital but efforts to save her life proved unsuccessful despite the doctors’ best efforts.
A hospital spokesperson told reporters, “Hotel staff called for paramedics as soon as the baby had difficulties breathing. She was brought to the hospital right away but the doctors were unable to revive her. The doctor who attended to her said she choked on food or something like it and couldn’t breathe.”
The tragic loss of such a young life stunned family and friends. Many took to social media to express their grief, share photos of the smiling baby girl, and offer condolences to her bereaved parents.
“Rest in peace little angel,” wrote one. “This is too sad. Rest in peace, baby girl. Please give comfort to her mommy and daddy. I feel utterly heartbroken for them,” said another.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the British baby’s death. Her remains have been taken to the Antalya Forensic Medicine Institute to determine the official cause. The probe aims to piece together the details of how this accident could have happened to raise awareness and prevent similar tragic cases from happening to other families in the future.
The heartbreaking story of baby Elizabeth’s untimely passing serves as a sobering reminder for all parents to be extra vigilant when it comes to their children’s safety, especially on holidays. Deepest condolences go out to her loved ones at this difficult time.
