Ballerina Michaela DePrince’s Mother Elaine Dies a Day After Daughter’s Tragic Passing

Devastating Family Tragedy

The moth­er of the late bal­le­ri­na Michaela DePrince has passed away, just 24 hours after her daugh­ter’s sud­den death at the age of 29. 

Elaine ‘Mam­ma E’ DePrince died on Sep­tem­ber 11, one day after the death of her adop­tive daugh­ter Michaela, accord­ing to a state­ment from the fam­i­ly’s spokesperson.

Elaine DePrince’s Passing

Elaine DePrince died dur­ing a rou­tine pro­ce­dure in prepa­ra­tion for a surgery, unaware of her daugh­ter’s pass­ing at the time. 

The fam­i­ly spokesper­son, Jes­si­ca Volin­s­ki, stat­ed that the “two deaths were com­plete­ly unre­lat­ed” and that Elaine was “by the grace of God spared the pain of expe­ri­enc­ing the loss of a fourth child.”

Michaela DePrince’s Tragic Legacy

Michaela DePrince was a renowned bal­le­ri­na who had over­come a dif­fi­cult child­hood in an orphan­age in Sier­ra Leone to become a world-class dancer. 

She had appeared on “Danc­ing with the Stars” and in Bey­on­cé’s “Lemon­ade” music video, inspir­ing many with her inspir­ing story.

Family’s Heartbreak

The fam­i­ly is cur­rent­ly expe­ri­enc­ing unimag­in­able grief, hav­ing lost two beloved mem­bers in the span of 24 hours. Volin­ski’s state­ment expressed the fam­i­ly’s dev­as­ta­tion, say­ing, “What the fam­i­ly is going through right now is tru­ly unimag­in­ably painful. Griev­ing two fam­i­ly mem­bers who died with­in a 24 hour peri­od is trag­ic and devastating.”
