Security Scare at DNC

The Demo­c­ra­t­ic Nation­al Con­ven­tion in Chica­go was hit with a major secu­ri­ty scare on Tues­day as police inves­ti­gat­ed mul­ti­ple bomb threats tar­get­ing sev­er­al hotels near the event.

The threats men­tioned the four-day DNC hap­pen­ing at the Unit­ed Cen­ter and made “anti-Semit­ic statements.”

Protesters Clash with Police

The city was already on edge, with an enor­mous police pres­ence and thou­sands of pro-Pales­tin­ian pro­test­ers turn­ing up every day. 

On Mon­day, dozens of pro­test­ers broke through a secu­ri­ty fence near the con­ven­tion site as they marched to call for a cease­fire in Gaza.

Investigation Underway

Police are inves­ti­gat­ing the bomb threats and the anti-Semit­ic state­ments made in the warn­ings. Addi­tion­al secu­ri­ty mea­sures have been put in place around the con­ven­tion’s perime­ter, includ­ing more fenc­ing and a no-fly zone for drones.
