Bronx Incident: Pit Bull Attacks Owner, Leading to Fatal Outcome

In a trag­ic inci­dent ear­ly Fri­day morn­ing, a pit bull attacked and fatal­ly mauled its 41-year-old own­er inside a Bronx apart­ment. Respond­ing police offi­cers were forced to shoot the dog, ulti­mate­ly killing it.

Author­i­ties arrived at the Simp­son Street apart­ment in Long­wood around 3 a.m., where they found the pit bull latched onto the man’s jugu­lar, result­ing in sig­nif­i­cant blood loss. In an attempt to sep­a­rate the dog from its own­er, two offi­cers fired their weapons, strik­ing the canine mul­ti­ple times.

Para­medics trans­port­ed the severe­ly injured man to St. Barn­abas Hos­pi­tal, where he suc­cumbed to his wounds. The two offi­cers involved were also tak­en to near­by hos­pi­tals for eval­u­a­tion. An inves­ti­ga­tion into the inci­dent is ongoing.
